"NKato" (NKato)

I’m sitting in a clinic waiting for my walk-in checkup, and the estimated wait time is about an hour. So, I’m gonna throw some questions at y’all.
What’s the best, and most affordable way to bring my Crown Vic’s horsepower up from 250 to 350? And hopefully with minimal hit to fuel economy (15 MPG city).
Any oppos in the PNW area planning a meetup in the spring or summer?
Does anyone here have experience with installing cruise control into a Crown Vic, and what is involved? My car does not have CC, and I want to install it for my summer road trip into Eastern Washington.
What other things should I watch out for on my car?
That’s about all I’ve got off the top of my head. Go nuts.

1) Replace it with a faster car.
2) n/a
3) Nope.
4) Scrapes, dents, and doing something stupid in it.

1. Most likely a cheap ebay turbo kit. Although that’s certainly not the BEST route. I highly doubt bolt ons would get you an additional 100hp, but I also don’t know the platform so... Maybe?
2. Yep, Seattle area meets have been happening semi-regularly. There will definitely be another big one this spring, and if you want to meet a smaller group, there’s a cars & coffee get together at 425 motorsports in Bellevue the first saturday of every month.
3. No clue. For that you’d want to check forums

1) Spray it
2) NA
3) Google is your friend. Looks to be as easy as getting the servo, cable, and right steering wheel: http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2424932
4) Watch out for? Common problems? Nope

Learn to enjoy 250 before modding it. It spoils you, you know....
For a modular, I guess a supercharger can’t be a bad idea...

But doesn’t it have a V8? I always for some reason pair V8s with superchargers and sixes and fours with turbos/turbochargers.

1: cheap? Not sure, effective? Supercharger yo! A crown Vic is my most fantasised about vehicle.

I’m in Vancity, I certainly plan on attending something this summer in the PNW.
Nope, sorry

He said he didn’t want a hit to fuel economy. Stay out of boost with a turbo, and fuel economy will be unaffected (or even improved with a good tune). A supercharger is always on, and there’s no way around the negative fuel economy.
Turbos are found on all engine configurations, same with superchargers. Turbos are generally much more efficient so on smaller motor like 4 cylinders they are almost always the preferred route, especially nowadays when turbo hardware is so good, and can match supercharger responsiveness. This translates to a better experience regardless of engine size. There’s a reason all of the big engine super/hypercars use turbos.

That is not a supercharger. That is a turbo. edit. Whoop, wrong person.

That is a turbo, not a super.

Not everything that looks like a turbo, is a turbo..

It’s a supercharger my friend. Centrifugal. Yes, a turbo like design, but it isn’t driven by exhaust gas, it’s mechanical.

Find a totalled Marauder, and a set of headers.

It’s a centrifugal supercharger. It uses a similar compressor assembly to a turbo but is belt driven instead of using a turbine.

The 16V Modular V8s aren’t high power or easily tunable engines. Best bang for your buck is probably to swap in some narrower gears. Options for power from cheap to expensive are nitrous oxide, supercharging, 32V swap, or some combination of the 3. Probably also worth checking forums to see for any later 4.6L parts (specifically the intake) can be swapped cheaply for a slight (not 350hp) upgrade.

A 32v swap sounds interesting. Would probably rather get a coyote instead tho.

Preferably a wet kit, for continued reliability.

Neither are bolt-in replacements, but the 32V has shipped in the Panther chassis from the factory, making some of the needed swap parts readily availability and proven. Plus used long blocks can be had cheap from Lincoln Mark VIIIs. Much easier swap if you have any doubts about your ability to pull a swap off.
